Dr. Walter H. Clark, president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and professor at Andover Newton Theological School, spoke on “Psychedelic Chemistry and Religious Experiences” in the Benedum Campus Community Center social hall.

Benedum Campus Community Center presented the musical Brigadoon in the social hall of the campus center. Directed by James Knorr, 1963 graduate of WVWC, the production included college and public school students.

Special Convocation marking the 75th Anniversary of West Virginia Wesleyan College. The speaker was Dr. John Ciardi, noted American Poet and Educator. Honorary degrees were conferred on James I. Ling, Houston Young, and James Guiher.

The Inspector General, a three-act play by Niloai Gogel presented by the Wesleyan College Theater on the state of Atkinson Chapel. Directed by Mrs. Betty Norvell, assisted by W. Malcolm Anders – a senior from Lansdale, Pa.

The Wesleyan Choir opened their 2,000 mile tour in Pittsburgh. Directed by John E. Taylor, the 53 voice choir visited a seven state area and sang before 8,000 people. Highlights of the tour included singing My Home Among the Hills in the White House.

The Esterhazy Orchestra, with David Blum as musical director, appeared in Atkinson Chapel. It was the final concert of the Buckhannon Community Concert Series for the 1965-66 year.

  • A Mother’s Day Church Service in Atkinson Chapel. Ramsey Bridges was the speaker; Special music (“The Invisible Fire,” an oratorio on the spiritual experience of John Wesley) was presented by the College Choir, College Orchestra, and guest soloist, Mr. Larry R. Parsons.

Convocation speaker: Dr. Robert J. Havighurst, distinguished social scientist and educator.

June 1-5: West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church meets on WVWC Campus

June 13 – July 15: The 9th Annual Institute of American Studies. Directed by Dr. Dwight L. Mikkelson. Funding from Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. Lecures, a 16-day bus tour, and provided 6 hours of undergraduate credit.
