- Boyers brief and tumultuous time as President of the college is best remembered for his cost-saving plan to plant potatoes and oats on the campus grounds, then finding it necessary to hire armed security guards to protect the crops, which were often vandalized.
- An ordained Methodist minister, after his resignation from his post he returned to the ministry, serving several decades.
