  • 1938, Ordained as a Deacon in the Methodist Episcopal Church in the New England Conference
  • 1941  Ordained as an Elder in the Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church
  • Assistant Pastor and minister to students at the University of Iowa
  • 1942-1944 Chaplain and Professor of Psychology, Simpson College, Indianola, Indiana
  • 1944-1950 Chaplain and Professor of Religious Education, Boston University
  • 1950-1957 Director of the Department of Student Loans and Scholarships of the Division of Educational Institutions, The Board of Education of the Methodist Church, Nashville, TN
  • 1957  Member of the West Virginia Conference
  • 1957-1972 President of West Virginia Wesleyan College until his retirement
