Sleeth was a 1942 graduate of the College. A theological educator and author, he returned to his alma mater as president in 1976 only to discover that his true heart and gifts did not lie in administration.
His time as president was plagued by a national energy shortage coupled with an unusually brutal winter.
Music at his inauguration ceremony included the premier of his wife, Natalie’s, well-known “Joy in the Morning,” a piece for choir and brass.
