Carl Doney’s Review of Thomas Haught’s Book

WESLEYAN HISTORY IS PRAISED

Wesleyan’s newly published history. “West Virginia Wesleyan College, 1890-1940,” by Dr. Thomas W. Haught, is bringing expressions of praise from many sides. Typical of the response from students, alumni, and friends of the College, is this excerpt from a letter by Dr. Carl G. Doney, former president of Wesleyan:

I have gone over every page, finding the volume strangely interesting and informing. Dr. Haught has performed a hard task with great credit to himself and to the College He has shown wise discrimination in what he has omitted as well as in what he has included. Dr. McCuskey has spoken truly in the introduction by saying that the anthor has been himself throughout; one can see the man we know and love for his wisdom and fine character. We should have heen disappointed had he gushed and smoothed the rough places. One now has the assurance that a careful and accurate appraisal has been given. Will you please
extend to him our sincere congratulations for achieving an impossible task?
