Kathleen Kay Goodwin, a native of Buckhannon, is the current West Virginia Secretry for the Arts and Education, serving in that capacity since 2001. A former member of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Board of Trustees, Secretary Goodwin holds seats on the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, the Martin Luther King, Jr. State Holiday Commission, the Prepaid Tuition Fund Board of Trustees, and the Workforce Development Review Committee. She is the Chairman of the West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship Board of Control and Honorary Chairman of the Governor’s Council on Literacy. Secretary Goodwin is the former chairman of the University of West Virginia System Board of Trustees, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Financial Aid Coordination Council. A recipient of the 2004 National Public Service Award from the National Academic of Public Administration and the American Society for Administration, one of four awards given in the United States, Secretary Goodwin was elected the public representative to the National Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. In 992, she ws named Distinguished West Virginian and was selected West Virginia University’s Outstanding Alumna in 1996. In addition, she was presented with the WVU President’s Distinguished Service Award in 1997 and was chosen Daughter of the Year by the West Virginia Society of Washington, D.C. in 1999. In 2006, she and her usbad, United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, were honored with the Palumbo Award from West Virginia Executive magazine, awarded annually to a “couple who stand as a shining example of devotion to their family and leadership in their community and state.” The Goodwins live in Charleston and are the parents of one adult child.
