LoveShine Memories

LoveShine Memories – Karen Nobbs Kuder

Thank you for the information, but sadly I cannot attend.

I was active with LoveShine during my time @ WVWC 1981-1985. Many of LoveShine’s members at that time were also involved in “Chapel House” both when it was off-campus (on Kanawha St; later became the Phi Sigma Epsilon House) and later when it was moved to Basement (men) & 1st floor (women) Aggie. I have very fond memories of my time with the group and touring adventures. I often wondered if the group still existed on campus.

Feel free to include my e-mail address if a LoveShine alumni directory is created.

I’ve often wondered what happened to Ed & Susan Saxman, Jeanne Saxman, Ed and Jacquie Southgate, Dean and Linda Plante, Cheryl and Chris Loftis and others. I kept in touch with Bruce and Connie Schanck and Bruce and Traci Ellenberger for awhile, but have lost track of them. This Spring I heard from Susan (Bacon) and Hoss (aka Dennis) Hartman. They had moved and sent me their updated contact info. One of their daughters went to WVWC in recent years.

Anyway, have a great reunion and God Bless,

Karen (Nobbs) Kuder

LoveShine Memories – Rev. Heather (Runser) McLeod

Hi all,

I am excited to hear that there will be a reunion this weekend. So very sorry that I won’t be able to make it. I’m not sure who Angela Gay is referring to in her previous email, but I’ll share with you what I remember about the last couple of years of Loveshine.

I joined Loveshine during my freshman year (2001-2002), so I don’t know about what

happened in previous years. During that year there were about… 12 of us? Not sure for certain on that. But all but 4 were seniors. We had one skit that year that we presented in chapel once, and took on the road to a couple of churches in the community. Called “The Love Show.” It was an original script based on 1 Corinthians 13, and was written by Sarabeth Wilson (now Clark). It also included an original song that she composed called “I need you God”. We also competed in the independent category in that year’s Spring Sing. (Lost. Miserably. Lol) The school year ended and almost everyone graduated.

The four of us who remained were Rebecca Davis, Nicholas Brauchler, Jonathan Rogosky and myself. During the 2002-2003 school year, we tried and failed to recruit new members. The four of us performed small skits in chapel, and a couple small ones at Chapel Hill UMC. But when we lost Becca at the end of the school year, we realized that we really couldn’t go on. I was heartbroken that we had to end.I hope this helps!

In Him,

Rev. Heather Runser McLeod

Have a blessed reunion! Also, Dr. Tuell, who is preaching this weekend, was one of my seminary professors. (That’s how I heard about the reunion earlier this week.) I’ve also given him the story. Have fun this weekend!

LoveShine Memories – Patti (Helfrich) Sullins

Dear Leslie,

Holy Smoke!  What a shock to open my email and see the photo of the charter cast ofL oveShine from 1976.  I am pictured on the front row, second from the right, with striped toe socks.  I had no idea that LoveShine continued for over 25 years — that is absolutely awesome!  I hope it brought as much fun and joy and improvisational challenges to succeeding cast members as it did to me when we were first trying to figure out what LoveShine should become.

Oh, how I wish I could come to this reunion, but I will be in California celebrating my mother-in-law’s 93rd Birthday.  I have gone on to become a full-time church musician and liturgist in the Catholic Church, where my husband (a former Episcopal Priest) now serves as one of the very few married Catholic Priests.  My experiences in LoveShine and in the Music Department at Wesleyan have played a huge role in my life journey, equipping me for many challenges, creative opportunities and surprises along the way.

May God bless you and all of the LoveShine cast members who turn out for this reunion!  I look forward to seeing some “Then and Now” pictures.

Let the Love of Jesus Shine forever!

AND

As for memories, I do remember the troupe visiting a couple of local churches in West Virginia to perform and evangelize.  I have visual memories of what it was like on "stage" — kinda goofy and very fun, and sometimes heartwrenching, depending on the type of skit we were doing.  It is great to see Jeff Haught’s Godspell hair again.  I also remember something about the guys calling out “Albatross!” in a crazy quasi-British accent at random times, which I never fully understood (probably because I wasn’t familiar with Monty Python), but enjoyed the hilarity of playing together with this group of Christian friends.  I was only able to stick with it for 2 years (if that long) due to the demands of study.

Surprisingly, the words and melody to the song:;LoveShine” did percolate up through 42 years of accumulated brain sludge, and I was able to sing along.  Wow! Those were formative years indeed.

Have a wonderful summer!

Yours in the love of Christ,

Patti
