McCuskey Hall

In 1958, the second of what we now know as the dorms on the Quad was built.

This residence hall is named for Roy McCuskey who has played many roles on campus: Seminary Graduate (1905), College Graduate (1908), Trustee (1921-41), and President (1931-41).

McCuskey Hall The Art Department and the Sleeth Gallery are located on the first floor, where there previously had been a cafeteria.

(1954) Building Will Begin In Sept. President Willlam J. Scarborough announced today that preliminary application for a $400,000 men’s dormitory at West Virginia Wesdeyan College  as been approved by William D. Jones, acting Regional Reprsentative of the Housing and  ime Finance Agency. Philadelphis, Pa. ~ Jones adrised Dr. Scarborough that information had  been recelved from the central office that preIiminary approval and the reservation of   funds in the amount of $400,000 had been made to aid in providing housing facilities for 150 men students and two private suites for supervisy personnel. This preliminary approval is based on the college’s eligibility as an institution of higher education and the approval  does not cover full engineering, financial, and legal matters. Final approval will be dependant upon satisfactory review of the full application. ~ The dormitory with lounge and
dining facilities will consist of three stories and will be Georgian-Colonial design to  harmonize with another adjoining dormitory built in 1952. ~ The construction will be of cement, steel and brick to make it fire-proof throughout, and the estimated floor area will  be approximately 27,000 square feet. The facilities will inctude 75′ dormitory rooms,  sdequate bath accommodations, two private suites with private baths for supervisory personnel, gas fired hot water heating plant, and 5,000 square feet of dining room, kitchen,  and lounge facilities. ~ Dr. Scarborough told of plans to begin consteuction Septemnber 1.  lf this proposal is accomplished, the dormitory will be completed sometime near August 1, 1955. Sleeth Gallery

The Sleeth Gallery is named in honor of Ronald and Natalie Sleeth. Ron (WVWC Class of 1942) served as president of the college from 1976-1977. He then returned to his role as a renowned theologian and educator. Natalie (Hon. 1989) was a noted composer of sacred music.

(2006) College Renovates Quad Residence Halls [Sundial 2006 Fall/Winter p.8] The first phase of a two million dollar residence hall renovation project this summer in Doney Hall, Fleming Hall, and McCuskey Hall has been completed. the new improvements provided new energy efficient windows, desks, chairs, beds, doors, and floor tile in doney and Fleming and new energy efficient windows in Mccuskey. Students are also benefiting from interior and exterior painting, more community space, and an upgrade to the television cable system. Phase two of the project will begin this summer. All bathrooms in the Quad will be remodeled. The College’s long-term plan is to renovate other residence halls over the campus during the next several years. Currenly, over 80 percent of Wesleyan’s students live on-campus.
